Power and fuel efficiency makes for a splendid combination on the Sonata 2.0T, which debuts Hyundai’s first turbocharged, 4-cylinder, direct-injection gasoline engine. This 2.0-liter turbocharged engine produces 274 horsepower at 6000 rpm and 269 lbs-ft of torque between 1750 and 4500 rpm. Mated to an all-new 6-speed automatic transmission with a manual shift mode, the estimated mpg rating is 22 city and 33 highway. The 6-speed transmission—26.4 pounds lighter than the predecessor 5-speed transmission—achieves its power and fuel economy results on regular unleaded fuel. (No need to pump premium fuel into the Sonata 2.0T.)

Sonata showcases a new look in 2011 via a sixth-generation interpretation. The 110-inch wheelbase midsize sedan provides six standard airbags, including a rear side curtain. With its ultra high strength steel body structure, the 2011 version is 25 percent stiffer in torsion and 19 percent stiffer in bending rigidity than the predecessor. Among the standard features are HD Radio Technology with Multicasting and Bluetooth hands-free phone system, which is also a segment first. Sonata’s roomy interior compliments a trunk that offers 16.4 cubic feet of space. The 2011 Sonata 2.0T Limited (with such standard fare as power sunroof, leather/heated front and rear seats) has a MSRP of $27,045.
