Diamante creates a new gem with exterior styling alterations for 2002. As the flagship sedan in the Mitsubishi stable, Diamante hasnt stamped an unforgettable reputation with consumers. Yet, theres plenty to admire. Throughout a 650-mile test drive, Diamante earned high marks for providing a comfortable ride within an inviting interior. Driver and passengers can overload on the coffee (thanks to 4 cup holders), and power up a gadget (via a 12-volt socket located in center floor console). When riders become unsatisfied with the interior climate, a quick dial twist to the desired temperature can be automatically maintained by pushing in the dial-knob. Theres no need to guess when the outside temperature reaches the freezing mark as a chime sounds at first dip at or below 32 degrees.
The 3.5-liter, 205 horsepower V6 engine gives the sedan ample motoring power and contributes to the car earning per gallon fuel economy of 18 city/25 highway. Diamante is sold in LS and ES versions, both utilize an electronically controlled 4-speed with overdrive automatic transmission. The only significant complaint about Diamante: seatbelts didnt retract fully. Mitsubishi Diamante has a suggested retail price of $25,687 for the ES version and $28,447 for the LS version. |
