Acura’s new TL Type-S exposes a Type A personality. As the newest TL, the Type-S growls with a dual-stage induction system and high-flow exhaust that pumps out 260 horsepower. The interface for that on-command power is a five-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission that offers a quasi-manual capability. (A driver may manually shift gears by moving a lever fore or aft to upshift or downshift.) The 4-door also sports 17-inch wheels as well as tailored suspension and steering performance cues. Also setting it apart from the straight TL, the Type-S has unique interior treatments such as metallic faced gauges and perforated leather seats and steering wheel.

A new in-dash, 6-disc CD changer, and a satellite-linked navigation system, providing the driver with information via a 5-inch color dashboard LCD screen, are standard on Type-S. Even amid a sea of SUVs, the TL Type-S is no slouch in conveying road confidence – evident not only in passing power but also by the wide-scope views enabled via the car’s side mirrors. On the safety side, TL Type-S has a vehicle stability assist system (an integration of traction control, anti-locking braking and stability enhancement) as standard fare. MSRP is $33,230.
