Fitted with the new-for-2019 Graphite and Graphite Performance Editions, the GMC Yukon conveys an imposing presence. The full-size SUV garnered long stares at nearly every traffic stop during a week-long test drive. Perhaps other motorists mistook the SUV for a presidential escort vehicle. And why not. The Graphite Edition underscores darkened visuals, including a black chrome grille mesh insert, fog lamp surrounds, and black side assist steps. That package can be further enhanced with the Graphite Performance Edition, which includes a 6.2-liter V8 engine, 10-speed automatic transmission, 22-inch six-spoke black wheels, 3.23 axle ratio, 2-speed active transfer case (4WD models), trailer brake controller, magnetic ride control, and multi-color headup display.
The tested four-wheel drive Yukon was powered by a 6.2-liter V8 producing 420 horsepower at 5600 rpm and 460 pounds-feet of torque at 4100 rpm. Yukon is large enough to haul cargo and riders with 94.7 cubic feet behind the first row, 51.7 cubic feet behind the second row, and 15.3 cubic feet behind the third row. A flat load floor is quick and easy via Yukon SLT’s standard power fold and tumble 60/40-split second row and third row bench seats. Standard wheelbase is 116 inches, while the Yukon XL’s wheelbase is 130 inches. The tested Yukon 4WD SLT’s base MSRP is $60,500. (Graphite Performance Edition adds $6,095, while the Graphite Edition adds $2,995.) Estimated mpg on the tested Yukon is 14 city/22 highway.
