The Jeep Renegade was an all-round impressive vehicle when it debuted in the 2015 model year, and it’s still a terrific vehicle in the 2018 model year. A week-long test drive solidified the reasons for liking this vehicle: interior comfort, ample cargo space, 4X4 capability, good sight lines for the driver, and noteworthy handling. New-for-2018 features include Apple CarPlay and Android Auto (standard on Renegade Latitude, Limited, Trailhawk; optional on Sport models), rear backup camera (now standard on all Renegade models), and optional dual pane power sunroof (Renegade Latitude, Limited, and Trailhawk).

Powering the tested 101.2-inch wheelbase Renegade Latitude Altitude 4X4 was a 2.4-liter 4-cylinder producing 180 horsepower at 6400 rpm and 175 pounds-feet of torque at 3900 rpm. (Renegade is also offered with a 1.4-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder that produces 160 horsepower at 5500 rpm and 184 pounds-feet of torque from 2500 to 4000 rpm.) Engines mate to a 9-speed automatic transmission. Jeep Renegade has minor revamps to the 2018 cabin, including new seat fabrics and two additional stowage spots for front occupants. The tested Renegade Latitude Altitude 4x4 with 2.4-liter engine collects estimated mpg of 21 city/29 highway and carries a base MSRP of $23,445.
