The 2018 model year marks a complete redesign of the behemoth, three-row Ford Expedition. Vast interior space equates to enormous headroom and legroom, even for a 6-foot-4 tall rider. Ford’s aluminum-bodied Expedition is the first full-size SUV with a second row that can tip and slide; that feature makes it considerably easier to enter and exit the third row seat. Fourth-generation Expedition has put an emphasis on connectivity, including USB ports for all rows and a wireless charging pad in the front center console. This is the first Ford vehicle with in-vehicle charging technology. A week-long test drive of the body-on-frame SUV seriously underscored performance.

Expedition is powered by a 3.5-liter EcoBoost twin-turbocharged V6 engine that produces 375 horsepower at 5000 rpm and 470 pounds-feet of torque at 3500 rpm. For the top-of-the-line Platinum trim, the engine releases 400 horsepower at 5000 rpm and 480 pounds-feet of torque at 3250 rpm. (In the previous model year, Expedition’s base horsepower was 365.) The 2018 V6 engine mates to a 10-speed automatic transmission; the 2017 model year engine was paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission. Expedition Limited 4x4 nabs estimated mpg of 17 city and 22 highway. Base MSRP for the 122.5-inch wheelbase Expedition Limited is $62,675.
