Hands-free driving certainly elicits a strange feeling for the first-timer. But it’s also exhilarating when the steering and speed control tasks are being handled by Super Cruise™, a driver assistance option on the 2018 Cadillac CT6 flagship sedan. (Beginning in 2020, Super Cruise will be available on all Cadillac models. The technology reaches other GM brands after 2020.) When Super Cruise is activated, there are multiple technologies in-play, including adaptive cruise control, LiDAR map data, GPS with real-time corrections, camera and radar sensors, and a driver attention system. This driver put Super Cruise to the test on a mid-Michigan divided highway. Super Cruise worked flawlessly from self-braking when approaching a slower vehicle to self-steering around curves while remaining in the center of a marked highway lane.

Super Cruise tops the new-for-2018 features on the CT6. Cadillac’s premier sedan is powered by a 265 horsepower 2.0-liter 4-cylinder. All wheel drive models are powered by either a 335 horsepower 3.6-liter V6, or a 404 horsepower twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V6. All engines mate with an eight-speed automatic transmission. The test driven 2018 Cadillac CT6 Premium Luxury all-wheel-drive car was powered by the 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 that nabs estimated mpg of 18 city and 26 highway. Base MSRP of the CT6 Premium Luxury AWD is $69,295. (The $5,000 Super Cruise package includes forward and reverse automatic braking, night vision, and adaptive cruise control.)
