The first-generation GMC Acadia competed as a full-size crossover utility, but the second-generation (debuting in 2017) is a midsize CUV. Acadia is 700-pounds lighter. Its smaller footprint features a 193.6-inch length (vs 200.8-inches), 75.4-inch width (vs 78.9 inches), and 112.5-inch wheelbase (vs 118.9-inches). Offering three rows of seating, Acadia is no space slouch with 79 cubic feet behind the front row, 41.7 cubic feet behind the second row, and 12.8 cubic feet behind the 50/50-split third row.

Acadia is powered by either a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder producing 193 horsepower at 6300 rpm and 188 pounds-feet of torque at 4400 rpm, or a 3.6-liter V6 releasing 310 horsepower at 6600 rpm and 271 pounds-feet of torque at 5000 rpm. Both engines mate to a 6-speed automatic transmission. A week-long test drive had riders both amused and impressed by the industry-first Rear Seat Reminder that uses chimes and a center-gauge message to remind occupants: check the back seat before leaving the vehicle. Test driven 2018 GMC Acadia SLT-1 with AWD and V6 engine collects estimated mpg of 17 city/25 highway and carries a MSRP of $41,560.
