It’s easy to get used to luxury as a driver of the all-new 2017 Volvo S90. A week-long test drive found a lot to like about this 115.8-inch wheelbase sedan’s tasteful tribute to excess. Cabin materials are richly soft to-the-touch. Seats are comfortable and supportive. The gauges are easy- to-read as is the information displayed via the center dash’s vertical touch screen. This screen is the control point for navigation, audio, and other in-vehicle operations. But for this driver, it was distracting when multiple swipes were needed to complete certain tasks. For riders, the main task is to enjoy the ride. And that’s an easy assignment with the car’s abundant headroom and legroom.

Powering the test-driven front wheel drive S90 T5 is a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder that produces 250 horsepower at 5500 rpm and 258 pounds-feet of torque from 1500-4800 rpm. The engine mates to an 8-speed automatic transmission. (The Volvo S90 T6 is powered by a turbocharged and supercharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine.) The S90 is available in two trims (Momentum and Inscription). An available Vision Package adds a 360-degree surround view camera, blind-spot information system/cross-traffic alert, and other technologies. Volvo S90 T5 Momentum collects estimated mpg of 23 city and 34 highway and carries a MSRP of $46,950.
