The RAV4 builds on a 20-year history of getting noticed. A one-week test drive highlighted the compact crossover vehicle’s pride points: spacious interior, comfortable ride, and competent handling. With the 60/40 split rear seat upright, there’s 38.4 cubic feet of cargo room. The stow space climbs to 73.4 cubic feet with rear seat folded. Front wheel drive is standard with Dynamic Torque Control All Wheel Drive optional. The 104.7-inch wheelbase RAV4 is offered in three trims (LE, XLE, and Limited). LE and XLE models are equipped with 17-inch wheels while the Limited version is fitted with 18-inch wheels.
Powering the RAV4 is a 2.5-liter four-cylinder releasing 176 horsepower at 6000 rpm and 172 pounds-feet of torque at 4100 rpm. The engine mates to a 6-speed automatic transmission. RAV4 has an independent MacPherson strut with stabilizer bar front suspension and a double wishbone coil spring with stabilizer bar in the rear. Power assisted rack and pinion steering links the driver to the road. A button on the steering wheel spoke lets the driver view via the gauge cluster different screens of information, including average fuel economy and distance to empty.
