This full-size SUV is beyond super-sized with an abundance of room for passengers and cargo thanks to 108.3 cubic feet behind the front row. Since its 1996 introduction, the Expedition has reigned as Ford’s largest utility vehicle with seating for eight via its three rows. Expedition’s new-for-2015 features include a turbocharged V6 engine, a new wheel line-up, and a revised front-end design. For the first time, the 2015 model adds Platinum to its trim line-up of XLT, Limited, and King Ranch. The standard Expedition has a 119-inch wheelbase, while Expedition EL has a 131-inch wheelbase.
A 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged EcoBoost V6 engine (365 horsepower at 5000 rpm/420 pounds- feet of torque at 2500 rpm) replaces the 2014 Expedition’s 5.4-liter V8 (310 horsepower at 5100 rpm/365 pounds-feet of torque at 3600 rpm). The new V6 engine mates to a 6-speed SelectShift automatic transmission. When properly equipped, the 4x2 and 4x4 versions of the standard Expedition have a maximum towing capacity of 9,200 pounds. During a one-week test drive, the standard wheelbase Expedition’s handling characteristics were especially impressive for a large SUV. Estimated mpg is 16 city/22 highway. Starting MSRP is $43,390.
