The Tucson rides the current technology curve with two new gasoline direct injection (GDI) engines replacing multi-port injection (MPI) engines, while a re-groomed interior and refreshed exterior keep the vehicle stylish. Cabin enhancements include a next-generation navigation system with 7-inch touchscreen display. Front wheel drive Tucson’s navigation route displays the traveled roadway’s speed limits, one of many helpful new features discovered during a weeklong test drive. Riders also get a share of the updates, like the nifty two-position rear reclining seats and the addition of HVAC vents on the center floor console’s backside.
Powering the 2014 Hyundai Tucson are new GDI engines. The 2.0-liter 4-cylinder produces an estimated 164 horsepower at 6200 rpm and 151 pounds-feet of torque at 4000 rpm (versus the 2013 Tucson’s MPI 2.0-liter 4-cylinder with 165 horsepower/146 pounds-feet of torque). The new 2.4-liter 4-cylinder produces 182 horsepower at 6000 rpm and 177 pounds-feet of torque at 4000 rpm (versus the 2013 Tucson’s MPI 2.4-liter engine with 176 horsepower/168 pounds-feet of torque). Ride comfort gets an assist from the new Sachs amplitude selective dampers, a standard feature on all trims (GLS, SE, and Limited). Tucson Limited with 2.4-liter engine and 6-speed automatic transmission has estimated mpg of 21 city/28 highway. That same model carries a MSRP of $26,200.
