Cube’s quirkiness certainly appeals to certain buyers, but this vehicle is far from being an oddball. It’s fun to drive with scads of room for kids, adults, groceries, and luggage. The vehicle’s distinctive box-look reminds some people of a refrigerator on wheels. That’s true with regard to the refrigerator-style rear door opening. And like a refrigerator, the interior configuration can be easily altered. There’s a six-way driver’s seat with height adjuster, a four-way front passenger seat, and the theater-style, sliding/reclining rear seat has three options: full rearward, mid-position, and full forward. For 2011, Cube adds USB connectivity, satellite radio NavTraffic capability as well as more features to the two option packages (SL Preferred Package and 1.8 S Krom Edition).

The vehicle is powered by a 1.8-liter 4-cylinder that produces 122 horsepower and 127 pounds-feet of torque that mates to either a continuously variable transmission (CVT) or a 6-speed manual. Driving the Cube is really noticeably different from other vehicles as the exceedingly short hood gives the driver exceptional forward vision. The rear view is also very good, and the turning radius is fairly spry at 33.4 feet. The vehicle’s standard list includes 15-inch wheels and vehicle speed-sensitive electric power-assisted steering. Cube 1.8S Krom with CVT automatic collects estimated mpg of 27 city/31 highway and carries a MSRP of $21,210.
