All is quiet on the news front for the 2009 CTS. (The exception being the addition of steering wheel gearshift paddles as an alternative way to upshift/downshift the 6-speed transmission; the feature is now part of the Summer Package.) Cadillac CTS is certainly a sweet sedan, providing a thoughtful interior center console layout – no overkill on the number of buttons/switches/knob. But the CTS can also switch to brat mode, demonstrating power on the first accelerator downbeat. The engine choices include two 3.6-liter V6s – one producing 263 horsepower and 253 pounds-feet of peak torque with variable valve technology (VVT), and the other with VVT and direct gas injection technology that produces 304 horsepower and 273 pounds-feet of peak torque. CTS underwent a complete re-design in the 2008 model year, so the 2009 version is virtually a carbon copy. And that’s just fine.

The Cadillac CTS’s designers and engineers paid attention to the details. The interior is very appealing, but the trunk definitely merits some coverage. First off, the 13.6 cubic feet of trunk space is mighty nice, but so is the molded-in-place/inside-the-trunk-lid grab handle. (That’s usually a feature only seen on SUVs.) There’s also a rear seat pass-through to the trunk that’s accessed by pulling down the rear seatback’s center armrest. And, as an added ‘extra’, a removable mesh-pouch was attached to the trunk’s interior wall via Velcro. About the lone knock against the CTS is the sedan’s so-so rear view, but if it’s a skyward view that hits your joy-button, the optional ($900) ‘Ultraview Sunroof’ provides a grand, oversized view to the sky. Estimated per gallon fuel economy on the all-wheel-drive CTS with 6-speed automatic transmission and 3.6-liter V6 engine with VVT is 17 city and 25 highway.
