If 17 superlatives were dropped into a paragraph, there would still be a word shortage in describing the all-new Dodge Challenger. This two-door throwback muscle car is truly impressive. During a one-week driving evaluation of the 5.7-liter V8 HEMI powered Challenger, the rear wheel drive monster drew an adoring audience every time the car was in motion or at a standstill. Get behind the wheel of the Challenger R/T and the biggest challenge is not thumping the accelerator to dive into 376 horsepower and 410 pounds-feet of torque. The six-speed manual transmission—with its pistol grip shifter—is a great accompaniment to the power-pumping V8 HEMI. Challenger’s engine/exhaust has a perfectly pitched roar, so revving the engine to impress the onlookers quickly becomes addictive for the driver.

The rear wheel drive Challenger R/T is flush with notable standards, including all-speed traction control, performance steering and suspension, air conditioning, tachometer and 160 mph speedometer, power eight-way driver’s seat, and a 60/40 rear folding seat with more than 37 inches of head room and 32-plus inches of leg room. The options are alluring, especially the 20-inch by 8-inch aluminum chrome clad wheels, all season performance tires, 3.92 axle ratio, and anti-lock 4-wheel disc heavy duty brakes. Challenger R/T with 6-speed manual gearbox and V8 HEMI has estimated fuel economy of 16 city and 25 highway and carries a suggested price of $29,320.
