There are Mustangs and there are super-performance Mustangs. Niche vehicle manufacturer Saleen has been beefing up the power quotient on Mustangs for years, and the Saleen Racecraft-branded 420 S has a lot more ponies than the standard Mustang. Check the stats of the 2009 Ford Mustang and the car sporting the 4.6-liter V8 lays tracks with 300 horsepower at 5750 rpm and 320 pounds-feet of torque at 4500 rpm. But the Saleen Racecraft 420 S puts medium-to-full throttle rides into orbit with a supercharged 4.6-liter V8 that releases 420 horsepower at 5800 rpm and 400 pounds-feet of torque at 4000 rpm. The suspension is track tuned, making for a pulse-pounding ride.

Visual Saleen identifiers include the Saleen logo on the steering wheel and the center wheel covers as well as the Racecraft name filling up the bottom rocker panels. A subtle difference between the 2008 420 S and the 2009 420 S is evident on the inside as the 2008 model has a cloth-fabric interior, but the 2009 makes leather seats standard fare. The 420 S with 5-speed short-throw manual transmission collects estimated mpg of 14 city and 21 highway. Base price of the 2009 Racecraft 420 S is $37,995 and $41,995 for the convertible. Optional equipment includes a Racecraft aero package for $1,000 and an 18-inch wheel and tire package for $1,299.
