The marvel of a hardtop retracting into the trunk as a button is depressed remains an amazing technical feat. The Volvo C70 completes the top-down process in a matter of seconds, and the automatic movements that put the hardtop and rear glass back in place is just as snappy and efficient. Trunk space with top up is 12.8 cubic feet and with roof inside the trunk, stowage capacity is six cubic feet. New interior features for the 2008 model year include laminated oak wood for the door handle surrounds, the center floor console and the center control panel. (A stow space is behind this eye-pleasing, slender-stylized control panel that houses buttons and four right-sized dials.) Also new in the interior is the clock’s placement within the center information screen as well as a leather-covered steering wheel and gear-shifter.

Volvo’s two-door C70 adds a bit more horsepower in 2008, going from the previous model year’s 218 to 227 horsepower at 5000 rpm. The 2.5-liter, 5-cylinder turbocharged engine collects 236 pounds-feet of torque between 1500 and 4800 rpm. There’s also a new Convenience Package offering for 2008. That new package includes rear park assist (which can be deactivated by pressing a button), power retractable side mirrors, and a blind spot information system. The C70 carries a MSRP of $39,240. When the engine is mated to the six-speed manual transmission, the estimated mpg is 18 city and 27 highway.
