The G37 Coupe, a re-interpretation of the G35, puts a new accent on power. That performance crush comes from the first application of a 3.7-liter V6 engine with variable valve event and lift (VVEL). The aluminum block and head engine cranks out 330 horsepower at 7000 rpm and 270 pounds-feet of peak torque at 5200 rpm. Compared to the G35’s 3.5-liter engine, this larger displacement engine means better fuel efficiency as well as an improvement on the emissions scale. On the base model G37 the engine mates to a 5-speed automatic with manual shift mode. The rear wheel drive coupe’s sculptured high-strength steel unibody frame – topped with an aluminum hood – rides on a double wishbone (with stabilizer bar) front suspension and an independent multi-link (with stabilizer bar) rear suspension.

Although the new 3.7-liter V6 engine is a genuine highlight of the G37, the fun-to-drive two-door has a number of other impressive features, including a 36 percent stiffer platform (when compared to the previous coupe), and standard vehicle dynamic control. The 8-way power-adjustable driver’s seat and the 4-way power-adjustable front passenger seat provide wonderful riding comfort. But the cave-like back seat means an adult rider must twist and turn the entire body in order to exit the car. The base model G37 Coupe, with a curb weight of 3,616 pounds, has mileage estimates of 18 city/24 highway and carries a MSRP of $34,250. The G37 Coupe Journey’s MSRP is $35,000, while the top-of-the-line G37 Coupe Sport with 6-speed manual transmission has a $35,550 MSRP.
