Past versions of the Suzuki XL7 have been well liked on the site, but the latest generation of this midsize crossover SUV just ups the likeability factor. First off, the XL7, a front wheel drive vehicle with four-wheel independent suspension and available all-wheel drive, is bigger. And in this case, bigger is better. For third row passengers, the all-important legroom statistic is good (30.8 inches) and compares well to the front row’s legroom (41.2 inches) and the second row’s legroom (38.8 inches). The front passenger seat, second row, and third row seats can be folded flat. The XL7 Limited (the top of four model trim offerings) comes with standard seven passenger seating – meaning three rows.

The power quotient also improves with this next-generation XL7. A 3.6-liter V6 puts out 252 horsepower, 67 more than last year’s 2.7-liter engine’s 185 horsepower. The 2007 XL7 engine produces 243 pounds-feet of torque, a 32 percent increase from the 2006 engine. (A really relevant point: the added power is not at the expense of fuel economy as the 2007 miles per gallon (mpg) numbers are not lower than the 2006 numbers.) That extra horsepower and torque really makes for a more capable vehicle during acceleration and other tasks. The AWD XL7 with V6 and 5-speed automatic transmission collects mpg of 17 city/23 highway. Towing capacity is rated at 3,500 pounds. The new XL7 includes standard ABS with electronic brake force distribution and an electronic stability program and traction control. MSRP of the AWD XL7 Limited is $29,549.
