The highly recognizable Mini adds another distinct look via its latest variant, the Mini Cooper S Convertible Sidewalk. The Sidewalk version, sold only in the U.S. as a $4,000 option package, adds glint and sparkle to the Mini with a number of exclusive touches, including malt brown leather seats/gear shift knob/door armrests, foglamps, and a Harmon Kardon audio system. This two-door gets noticed, especially when the soft-top is down. The top-down process –which takes about 15 seconds – occurs by depressing an overhead console button. And there are no added steps since the top-down look doesn’t depend on a tonneau cover. The luggage zone is not big, but it’s usable. (With the top down, luggage space is 4.20 cubic feet. It’s 5.78 cubic feet with soft-top roof closed, but luggage space can be increased to 21.18 cubic feet by folding the lockable rear seatbacks.)

Access to the rear stow space is via a drop-down lid, which is supported by two steel cables. That lid – roughly the width of a stadium bleacher seat – also serves as a loading panel that can support up to 176 pounds. On the power scorecard, the interior spotlights a hugely oversized speedometer (which Mini dubs the Center Speedo) that is positioned on the dash midway between driver and front passenger. Powering the 97.1-inch wheelbase Mini Cooper S Convertible is a supercharged, inter-cooled 1.6-liter 4-cylinder engine that produces as much as168-170 horsepower and 147 pounds-feet of peak torque. When mated to the six-speed manual transmission from Getrag, the miles per gallon tally is 24 city and 31 highway. MSRP of the Cooper S Convertible is $25,400
