Subaru’s first vehicle to offer 7-passenger seating really doesn’t have adequate room for seven adults. That’s because tall guys and gals will find getting seated in the third row a task. The folding/reclining second row backrest and the seat’s 7.8 inches of travel are just not enough to make getting into the third row an easy event or provide enough legroom for third row passengers. Based on a heavily modified Legacy/Outback platform, the B9 Tribeca does showcase a longer wheelbase (108.2 inches) and wider track (62.2 inches front/62.1 inches rear). Tribeca debuts a new front grille for the automaker, but it’s the interior that really travels in a different direction. The sweeping curved surfaces project an artsy appeal, which is especially interesting for a vehicle that likely will be attracting notice from minivan and SUV diehards.

Tribeca is fitted with a 3.0-liter, 250 horsepower 6-cylinder Boxed engine that’s paired with a five-speed automatic transmission. The all-wheel-drive vehicle provides 8.4 inches of minimum ground clearance. There are four, 12-volt outlets: two in the center console and two in the cargo area. Maximum cargo space is 74.4 cubic feet. A 9-inch LCD screen and DVD player are provided as optional rear seat entertainment. The 7-passenger Tribeca also features an auxiliary rear cabin air conditioner with air vents in the headliner. Goodyear all-season tires and 18-inch aluminum alloy wheels are standard as are anti-lock brakes with electronic brake force, power glass moonroof, and a security system with engine immobilizer. Tribeca’s per gallon estimates are 18 city/23 highway. MSRP is $37,695.
