For those who want a bit more on their Wrangler, the 2005 model year brings off-road trekkers the Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon. The newest Jeep extends the wheelbase to 103.4 inches, 10 inches more than the base Wrangler. There are a host of standard off-road tailored features on the Unlimited, like a 4.11 axle ratio (vs. a 3.73 axle ratio), heavy-duty/part-time four wheel drive, and 16-inch by 8-inch five-spoke cast aluminum wheels to bejewel the 31-inch tall Goodyear tires. Those tires add a _-inch of ground clearance. The burly tread pattern wraps around the sidewall to give extra ‘grab’ on off-road marches. Wrangler Unlimited is decked out to be an extreme sport vehicle, but its on-highway demeanor is also on target.

The Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon wraps up a number of useful standard features, like cargo tie down loops, rear folding seat, fog lamps, swing-away side mirrors, full size spare tire, and an under-hood lamp. The option list has such varied offerings as a $15 locking fuel-fill cap, a $300 leather wrapped steering wheel and electric lime green pearl coat exterior paint at $150. Wrangler Unlimited provides an additional 13 inches of space behind the second row, doubling the cargo space in the base Wrangler. Rear seat riders also will like that the Wrangler Unlimited has a tip-and-slide front driver seat and a tow capacity of 3,500 pounds, 1,500 more than standard Wrangler. Fuel numbers on the 6-cylinder/6-speed manual transmission Wrangler Unlimited are 15 city/19 highway. MSRP is $28,365.
