Twice during the 560 mile, one-week road test with the Acura TSX, this driver needed to steer around large chunks of blown tire. Both times, the TSX demonstrated how great steering performance diffuses a potentially tense situation. TSX showed extreme poise, and that’s what superior performance cars do. The car’s 2.4-liter 4-cylinder with 200 horsepower and 166 pounds-feet of peak torque is complimented by a 6-speed manual transmission with a remarkably smooth shift pattern. TSX is simply a grand way to shuttle around the neighborhood and cruise along the freeway. A 40-foot curb-to-curb turning circle makes any needed directional adjustments extra easy.

From an overall viewpoint, the TSX is a crowning achievement. But – isn’t there always a but – the cabin treatments elicited a couple of complaints. As great as the steering performance is, the steering wheel’s control buttons were pulling away from the leather wrapped wheel. Beyond that quality snag, the dashboard screen for navigation and other control interfaces found the user pushing too many buttons to activate the air conditioning or heating. Yet this 4-door sedan leaves a very favorable impression, underscored by its hearty performance, ample trunk and interior space, and very comfortable seats. Mileage counts are estimated at 22 city/29 highway. MSRP is $28,490.
