A year after its debut, the 2004 Mazda 6 stays true to form, which is a snappy midsize sedan with both attitude and ability. There are only minor differences for ’04: standard 17-inch alloy wheels, two upgrade packages (luxury and security), moonroof wind deflector accessory, and two new exterior colors. Mazda 6 is sold in “i” and “s” versions with the base model being powered by 2.3-liter, 160 horsepower four cylinder and Mazda 6s fitted with a 3.0-liter, 220 horsepower V6 engine. Either engine can be paired with a five-speed manual or Sport Shift automatic transmission.

The sedan really expresses itself as a meant to be driven car. With that in mind, rear seat passengers will be comfortable, but won’t extra storage space beyond the back pouches on front seatbacks. The interior is pleasant enough for a reasonably priced sedan (MSRP of Mazda 6s is $21,525), and the standard fare list is quite inclusive with such items as fully independent suspension system, anti-lock brakes with traction control, steering wheel mounted audio controls, and air conditioning. Mazda 6 presents a strong motivator for just wanting to get behind the wheel and step on the accelerator. Estimated per gallon fuel numbers for the V6/5-speed equipped car are 19 city/26 highway.
