The all-new 2003 Tiburon GT’s great-looking exterior design carries over to a jazzy interior that sparkles with a circular motif of oversized gauges, vents, and speaker grilles. Previous Tiburon models were built off the same platform as the Elantra, but the 2003 model claims its own chassis, providing a slightly longer wheelbase and car length. Tiburon utilizes an independent front and rear suspension; the GT version is tuned differently and employs a larger anti-roll bar. The GT coupe features standard fare that includes rear defroster and wiper (necessary given the slope of the window), leather seats, rear spoiler, Infinity AM/FM/cassette/CD with six speakers, and 17-inch alloy wheels on Michelin tires.

Tiburon – for the first time – offers a V6 engine, which nabs 181 horsepower at 6000 rpm and 177 pounds-feet of torque at 4000 rpm. (A 140 horsepower 4-cylinder is the base engine.) Standard transmission is a five-speed manual. An automatic transmission is an option as is a 6-speed manual. The shifter on the 6-speed transmission wisely places reverse gear off to the right of 6th gear and engagement requires a pull-up of the shifter knob. The Hyundai Tiburon GT with 6-speed manual gathers fuel economy estimates of 18 city and 26 highway. Base price of the GT version is $17,999. For a buyer looking for a sports coupe, the Tiburon packs a power punch at a reasonable price.
