After more than 425 miles over a one-week test drive, the resounding message to those who haven’t driven the Dodge Durango: do so. In the crowded SUV segment, the Durango is a mega-watt offering. There’s an abundance of storage spots. The third row seat easily can be tumbled to a fold-flat/hide-away position to provide additional cargo space. The rear zone also features a power outlet and tie-down hooks. And unlike some vehicles, the side running boards can actually support the weight of someone entering/exiting the vehicle. In a nutshell, the Durango provides convenience at every turn.

Durango has no difficulty strutting its weight with a standard 4.7-liter 235 horsepower Magnum V8 drenching the driver and as many as eight passengers in pronounced power. With a 7,550 maximum towing capacity, Durango offers best-in-class pull power. Standard features on the Durango SLT include air conditioning, AM/FM stereo radio with CD and changer controls, and heavy-duty suspension. The downside aspects are relatively low fuel economy numbers (14 city/18 highway on 4.7-liter engine mated to a new five-speed automatic transmission) and air vents that offer limited fan adjustments. MSRP is $35,840.
