Step down on the accelerator of the Dodge Ram 1500 Quad Cab 4x4 Sport pick-up truck and expect to hear and feel the engine power. There are two new engine choices: a 3.7-liter Magnum V6 that produces 210 horsepower (compared to the predecessor 3.9-liter V6 that produced 175 horsepower); and a 4.7-liter Magnum V8 producing 235 horsepower (compared to the predecessor 5.2-liter V8 that produced 230 horsepower). A 245 horsepower 5.9-liter Magnum V8 remains as a carryover in the engine stable. Unlike other trucks in its class, the four-speed steering column mounted automatic transmission’s reverse gear ratio is equal to its low gear ratio.

Dodge Ram 1500 is a four-door presence. Unless belonging to the 6-foot and taller group, most people will automatically reach for the grab handles to help with the big step-up into this smartly attired truck. Each front-hinged door has inside and outside handles. As a completely redesigned vehicle, the truck has increased its suspension travel from 8 to 8.5 inches. The four-wheel disc brakes are the largest in its segment. Dodge Ram 1500 has a slightly shorter truck bed – 6.3 inches instead of 6.6 inches – but those three inches were reassigned to the interior cab to increase space in the rear seating environment. Mileage estimates per gallon are 13 city/17 highway. Suggested base price is $25,350.
