The new ML 320 sport utility vehicle alters its exterior appearance from 2001 with redesigned front and rear bumpers, tailgate panel, front and rear lights as well as 17-inch wheels. Interior changes include vehicle-length side curtain airbags, climate controls for rear seat occupants, and a center console with double cupholder, ashtray, and 12-volt power outlet. Although the interior tweaks are nice, the cabin still has panel protrusions that can make long road trips longer when knees and elbows make unwanted connections with cabin treatments (i.e. lower instrument panel).

From a technology standpoint, the SUV is rife with wizardry. For instance, the ML 320 is a bit different from its competitors in that it utilizes electronic 4-wheel traction control as well as a driveline with front, center, and rear open differentials. Engine power is provided via a 3.2 liter V6 that produces 215 horsepower. Other road travelers can detect upcoming ML 320 lane changes by rear turn signal lights as well as new turn signal repeaters in the side mirrors. Mileage counts for the 5-speed electronic automatic transmission attired vehicle are 15 city/19 highway. Suggested base price is $36,300.
