Looking for a vehicle with good, all-around road views? Want ample front and rear seat headroom and legroom? Expect road-hug handling and a suspension that doesnt toss you like a jellyfish? The C320 sport wagon is a great car from a driving and riding standpoint. Theres plenty of power (3.2-liter 215 horsepower V6 engine); the 5-speed automatic transmission is a smoothness gem; and the 12-way electronic adjust front seats make getting comfortable a snap. The plentiful standard appointment list includes automatic dimming rear and driver side mirrors, driver and passenger climate control (red and blue controls for heat and cool), and anti-theft alarm with engine immobilizer.
With all the high praise that this new vehicle entry earns, the wagon does have a bust in its steering wheel controls, a system that lets the driver alter more than 50 functions such as audio, clock and trip odometer. The 4-rocker button interface is cumbersome to navigate. (During a road trip, setting the clock via steering wheel controls required several tries until the user got it right.) Expect mileage estimates of 19 city/25 highway. Although smaller than the E-Class wagon, C320 provides up to 63.6 cubic feet of cargo space. Suggested retail price for the 2002 Mercedes-Benz C320 is $38,450.
