The all-new Chevrolet Avalanche looks like a truck, but this unique pick-up can convert to a vehicle with an 8-foot covered cargo box in a flash via a midgate. Re-configuring the midgate is really simple. No tools, and one person can do the task in seconds. The midgate can serve as the front of the cargo box, leaving space for six passengers, or it – along with the rear glass window – can be stowed within the vehicle for open access to the cargo box. The truck bed can be covered with a three-piece section that is strong enough to support a 250-pound man. (A soft tonneau cover is available.) The sides of the truck box feature lockable top-load bins that can be used as ice coolers since each is fitted with a drain plug.

Avalanche is sold in 2WD and 4WD with MSRP starting at $30,965 for the 4x2 model. Standard equipment on the _-ton, 4-door truck includes a 285 horsepower V8 engine,
4-speed automatic transmission, four-wheel anti-lock brakes, air conditioning, AM/FM stereo with CD player, and a trailering package. Avalanche is based off the body-on-frame Suburban sport utility vehicle, but engineers created a fully integrated rear end design via adding large boxed sections for extra support. (This means Avalanche is not a traditional separate cab-box structure.) Avalanche’s rear plastics bumper features built-in steps, making truck box entry easier. The use of heavy-duty plastics is also evident on the interior, like the backside of the 60/40 split-folding rear seat.
