A week-long test drive of the 2022 Nissan Frontier highlighted how much quieter this pickup truck is versus the prior model. Frontier also presents a considerably smoother ride with less shake between cab and truck bed. That wrinkle-free ride gets a boost from the addition of a rear stabilizer bar, new urethane jounce bumpers and hydraulic cab mounts that reduce road vibration by 80%. This midsize pickup truck showcases less road noise via new front door acoustic laminated glass, insulation and other improvements. Frontier rides on the same platform as the previous model, so the wheelbase (126-139.8 inches) is unchanged. Trailer sway control and dampened tailgate assist are among the new standard features.

Frontier is powered by a 3.8-liter V6 producing 310 horsepower at 6400 rpm/281 lb-ft of torque at 4400 rpm. Engine mates to a 9-speed automatic transmission, replacing the prior 5-speed automatic transmission. Frontier marks the first application of Nissan’s Intelligent Around View Monitor with moving object detection and off-road mode to provide exterior camera views when the Frontier PRO-4X is in 4LO. Cabin features include a new stow space on top of the instrument panel, available 9-inch color touchscreen, standard 7-inch driver assist display, and standard zero gravity seats. The tested Nissan Frontier PRO-X crew cab 4X2 collects estimated mpg of 18 city/24 highway and carries a suggested MSRP of $34,240.
