Next-generation iterations of Nissan’s midsize pickup truck (Frontier) and midsize SUV (Pathfinder) arrive in summer 2021 as 2022 models. The Frontier and Pathfinder reveals streamed from Nashville, Tennessee and Nissan’s design studio in Atsugi, Japan. Both of these workhorse vehicles have undergone inside-out makeovers. The 2022 Pathfinder’s exterior profile puts a spotlight on shorter front overhangs and blister fenders “done in a new way”, according to Ken Lee, 2022 Pathfinder’s design team leader. Pathfinder will have a roomier third row, a second-row captain’s chair option (new for this SUV), and a best-in-class maximum 6,000-pound towing capacity. With a maximum towing capacity of 6,720 pounds when properly equipped, Frontier adds Trailer Sway Control to its lengthy standard fare list.

From a performance perspective, the 2022 Frontier is powered by a 3.8-liter V6 that produces 310 horsepower and 281 lbs-ft of torque. (Ninety-three percent of the parts were either new or redesigned when the engine debuted in 2020.) The 2022 Pathfinder uses 3.5-liter V6 engine that releases 284 horsepower and 259 lbs-ft of torque. Both engines mate to a 9-speed transmission. The Pathfinder SUV will offer an all-new Intelligent 4WD with 7-position Drive and Terrain Mode Selector. Frontier will be Nissan’s first vehicle to offer an Intelligent Around View Monitor with Moving Object Detection and Off-Road Mode.
