The 2020 Hyundai Kona debuted in 2018 featuring an all-new platform. The platform’s hot- stamped advanced high strength steel, primarily providing impact absorption and reinforced occupant protection, comprises 52 percent of the unibody. This small crossover utility vehicle demonstrated a big attitude throughout a week-long test drive. Two engine choices are offered. A 2.0-liter Atkinson 4-cylinder kicks out 147 horsepower at 6200 rpm and 132 lb-ft of torque at 4500 rpm. The engine mates to a 6-speed automatic transmission. Kona’s Limited and Ultimate trims are powered by a 1.6-liter direct injected turbocharged 4-cylinder that produces 175 horsepower at 5500 rpm and 195 lb-ft from 1500-4500 rpm. The turbocharged engine is paired with a Hyundai-developed dual clutch 7- speed EcoShift transmission. Kona provides more than 19 cubic feet of cargo space behind the second row and nearly 46 cubic feet behind the first row. The 102.4-inch wheelbase Kona is sold in 5 trims: SE, SEL, SEL Plus, Limited, and Ultimate.
