The Ford Expedition is large. Very large. Yet this three-row SUV has the performance mindset of a muscle car. Only a slight exaggeration. A week-long test drive of the 2020 Expedition Limited 4x4 repeatedly proved that even a very large vehicle -- base curb weight of 5,623 pounds -- can move with surging authority to pass other (smaller) vehicles. With a full redesign in 2018, the 2020 Expedition puts the automaker’s Co-Pilot 360 driver assistance technologies in the standard fare column. The other significant change for 2020 is the addition of the King Ranch trim, which joins XLT, Limited, and Platinum grades.

Powering the tested Expedition is a 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 producing 375 horsepower at 5000 rpm and 470 lbs-ft of torque at 2250 rpm. The engine mates to a 10-speed automatic transmission with SelectShift. Expedition’s sprawling cargo space has a maximum of 20.9 cubic feet behind the power-folding third row, a maximum 63.6 cubic feet behind second row, and 104.6 cubic feet behind the first row. That very spacious cabin spotlights high-end materials and a whopping 15 cupholders. The 122.5-inch wheelbase Expedition Limited 4x4 collects estimated mpg of 17 city/22 highway and carries a MSRP of $66,470.
