The name is simple. Just X. It’s the latest special edition for Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited. The Limited X midsize SUV has a number of unique design separators, including dual dark chrome exhaust tips, black grille, gloss black roof rails, sport hood, 20-inch x 8-inch low gloss Granite Crystal aluminum wheels flanking Pirelli tires, and special badging. Cabin visuals emphasis black. During a week-long test drive, an onlooker compared the Limited X to the ‘look’ of a superhero. In terms of superhero performance, the 114.7-inch wheelbase Grand Cherokee is a strong off-road vehicle that’s equally savvy with potholes and other on-road ruts.

Powering the tested Grand Cherokee Limited X 4x4 was the standard 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 producing up to 295 horsepower at 6400 rpm/260 pounds-feet of torque at 4000 rpm. Optional engine is a 5.7-liter V8 spinning 360 horsepower at 5150 rpm/390 pounds-feet of torque at 4250 rpm. (Select Grand Cherokee models offer a diesel engine, or a 6.4-liter V8.) All engines mate to a TorqueFlite 8-speed automatic transmission. Grand Cherokee adds blind-spot monitoring with rear cross path detection as standard fare, and Limited and above models add Uconnect’s 8.4-inch touchscreen radio and navigation system as standard equipment. The tested 2019 Grand Cherokee Limited X 4x4 collects mpg of 18 city/25 highway and carries a base MSRP of $40,945.
