The 2018 Nissan Armada adds a driver assist via the Intelligent Rearview Mirror. The Armada Platinum and Platinum Reserve models are the first Nissan vehicles to get this smart technology as standard fare. During a week-long test drive, simply flipping a switch (on the bottom-side of the rearview mirror) activated the I-RVM to project a live rear-of-vehicle camera image onto an LCD monitor integrated within the rearview mirror. For this test driver, the I-RVM technology provided a visual assist when rear seat occupants partially blocked the traditional rearview mirror’s exterior sight lines. Nissan’s three-row SUV is powered by a 5.6-liter V8 that grabs 390 horsepower at 5800 rpm and 394 pounds-feet of torque at 4000 rpm. Engine mates to a 7-speed automatic transmission. When properly equipped, the sure-footed, body-on-frame Armada is capable of towing 8500 pounds for 2WD and 4WD models. The second-generation, 121.1-inch wheelbase Armada debuted in the 2017 model year. Other changes for 2018 include standard NissanConnect Services, an 8-inch touchscreen display, and additional USB ports on all trim levels. The tested Nissan Armada Platinum 4WD collects estimated mpg of 13 city/18 highway and carries a base MSRP of $61,590.
