The all-new Ford F-Series Super Duty (F-250, F-350, F-450) shows its strength with best-in- class accolades for towing, payload, and powertrain performance. Those attributes are the cornerstones of the Super Duty as is its high-strength steel fully boxed frame and military-grade aluminum alloy body. During a week-long test drive, the F-250’s diesel engine mightily impressed. The 2017 F-250 claims a best-in-class output of 440 horsepower and a whopping 925 pounds-feet of torque with this second-generation Power Stroke engine. That’s a significant uptick from the 860 pounds-feet of torque that churned from the diesel engine powering the 2016 model.
Power choices for the F-250 are a 6.2-liter gasoline V8, and the 6.7-liter Power Stroke turbo diesel V8. (Ford is the lone vehicle maker that develops and builds its own powertrains in this truck class.) The F-250 has a best-in-class payload of 4,200 pounds and leads the segment in towing with 18,000 pounds when fitted with the all-new trailer tow package. The test driven 2017 Ford F-250 SRW 4x4 Crew Cab with Power Stroke diesel engine and 6-speed automatic transmission has a base MSRP of $57,455. (Fuel economy ratings are not required for this class of vehicles.)
