Car buyers typically associate the Dodge Charger with monster power. The 2017 Charger is definitely a performance-magnet, but it’s also a really, really great all-around sedan. During a one-week test drive, the car demonstrated its appeal with agile handling, an exceedingly comfortable ride, and an easy-to-operate Uconnect system. (This new, 4th generation infotainment system with 8.4-inch touchscreen has faster start-up time, sharper graphics, and other enhancements.) Other new-for-2017 Dodge Charger features include a standard active exhaust system on all HEMI V8 models, and new Charger Daytona and Daytona 392 models.

The test-driven sedan’s 3.6-liter V6 produced 292 horsepower at 6350 rpm/260 pounds-feet of torque at 4800 rpm. Although the V6 serves up ample power, it’s a minor-leaguer in comparison to the top-of-the-line power mongrel (the Hellcat). With its 6.2-liter HEMI Hellcat supercharged V8 engine, the Charger SRT Hellcat generates 707 horsepower at 6200 rpm/650 pounds-feet of torque at 4800 rpm. Charger’s rear seat riders have 40.1 inches of legroom. Trunk space is also extra big (16.5 cubic feet of space). The test driven Dodge Charger SXT with all wheel drive collects estimated mpg of 18 city/27 highway and carries a base MSRP of $31,995.
