The Nissan Versa Note is a practical choice for buyers wanting generous fuel economy, roominess, and lots of cargo space. Nissan’s current generation hatchback debuted in the 2014 model year. The big change for 2015 is the addition of the SR and SL trims, bringing the total to five (S, S Plus, SV, SR and SL). During a one-week test drive, the 102.4-inch wheelbase Versa Note had riders fawning over the car’s abundant space, especially the 38.3 inches of rear legroom. Getting into and out of the hatch is aided by a low-step in height and side doors designed to stay put at a wide open angle.
Powering the Versa hatch is a 1.6-liter 4-cylinder that releases 109 horsepower at 6000 rpm and 107 pounds-feet of torque at 4400 rpm. The engine mates to either a 5-speed manual or a continuously variable transmission (CVT). Nissan’s first Active Grille Shutter application is available with the CVT. The shutter helps reduce air entering the engine compartment by closing at speeds above 20 mph. Versa Note provides 18.8 cubic feet of cargo space with 60/40 split-fold rear seat upright and 38.3 cubic feet with rear seat folded. The front wheel drive car is sold in hatch (Versa Note) and sedan versions. The 2015 Nissan Versa Note SR with CVT collects estimated mpg of 31 city/40 highway and carries an MSRP of $17,530.
