Chevrolet Silverado 1500’s new-for-2015 model year highlight is an 8-speed automatic transmission. It’s paired with the 6.2-liter V8 EcoTec3, the most powerful of three engine choices for the full-size pickup truck. Compared to the 6-speed automatic that mates with either the 4.3- liter V6 or the 5.3-liter V8, the newest transmission has a wider gear ratio spread (7.0 overall). At highway speeds and in stop-and-go commutes during a one-week test drive, the 8-speed transmission’s shift transitions were splendidly smooth. In addition to the new transmission, other new-for-2015 features on the Silverado 1500, which was completely redesigned in 2014, include an available spray-on bedliner on all models and new exterior colors.

Silverado 1500’s beefiest engine, the 6.2-liter V8, produces 420 horsepower at 5600 rpm and 460 pounds-feet of torque at 4100 rpm. That engine provides more muscle than any other light-duty pickup truck. On the safety side, the optional Driver Alert Package provides front and rear park assist, lane departure warning, forward collision alert, and a safety alert driver’s seat that shakes whenever a warning is triggered. Silverado 1500 is offered in five trims as well as the Z71 Off- Road Package, which is available with LT and LTZ trims. The 2015 Silverado 1500 4WD LTZ Crew Cab model fitted with 8-speed transmission and 6.2-liter V8 collects estimated mpg of 15 city/21 highway and carries a MSRP of $45,810.
