In the crossover utility vehicle segment, choices are abundant. Only the buyer can decide what will make the swing vote for or against a particular model. But if the choice comes down to value for the buck, the 2015 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport is a fine selection. The vehicle is offered in front wheel drive or all-wheel drive and two seating rows. (Santa Fe provides three seating rows.) Redesigned for the 2013 model year, the 2015 Santa Fe Sport’s electric power steering system now uses a 32-bit microprocessor; front wheel bushings also were retuned. The standard equipment list for 2015 includes a driver’s blind spot mirror, automatic up/down front passenger window, and daytime running lights.
Powering the Santa Fe Sport is 2.4-liter 4 cylinder, or a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder that grabs 264 horsepower at 6000 rpm and 269 pounds-feet of torque between 1750 and 3000 rpm. (The three-row Santa Fe is powered by a 3.3-liter V6.) During a one-week test drive, the Santa Fe Sport presented comfortable seating and ample on-demand power via the 2.0-liter engine. The 106.3-inch wheelbase Santa Fe Sport has an estimated 71.5 cubic feet of space behind the first row and 35.4 cubic feet behind the second row. The all wheel drive Hyundai Santa Fe Sport with 2.0-liter 4-cylinder and 6-speed automatic transmission carries an MSRP of $33,000 and collects estimated mpg of 18 city and 24 highway.
