With more than 80% of parts either new or redesigned, the 2014 Kia Sorento is not a repeat of the 2013 model. The end-game is not a radical re-do, rather the overall effect is a more refined crossover utility vehicle. A next-generation voice-activated telematics system (UVO eServices), a redesigned instrument panel, and a new 3.3-liter direct injection V6 engine are the notable enhancements. Kia’s first blind spot detection system (available with the Touring Package) is offered on Sorento. While the crossover utility vehicle didn’t undergo a complete visual makeover, the exterior looks refreshed with new front and rear fascias.
Sorento is offered with a 2.4-liter four cylinder engine that releases 191 horsepower at 6300 rpm and 181 pounds-feet of torque at 4250 rpm as well as the new 3.3-liter V6 that provides 290 horsepower at 6400 rpm and 252 pounds-feet of torque at 5200 rpm. During a one-week test drive of the V6-powered vehicle with all wheel drive, the Sorento exhibited crisp, on-command acceleration that was complimented by an equally responsive braking system. Kia Sorento EX with all wheel drive, V6 engine, and 6-speed automatic transmission collects estimated mpg of 18 city/24 highway and carries a MSRP of $31,700.
