A new 6-speed automatic transmission developed by PowerTech joins the 2014 Patriot’s transmission line-up. Base model Patriot Sport is fitted with a standard 5-speed manual transaxle, and a second-generation continuously variable transmission is part of the Freedom Drive II full time active 4x4 off-road package. The test driven compact SUV’s automatic transmission showcased velvet-quiet shifting from its 4.21 first gear through its final 6th gear. For the do-it- yourself owner, the 6-speed automatic transmission doesn’t require filter or fluid changes under normal driving conditions. Also new for the 2014 model year are front seat-mounted airbags as standard equipment.

Jeep Patriot is powered by a standard 158 horsepower/141 pounds-feet of torque 2.0-liter 4- cylinder, or a 172 horsepower/165 pounds-feet of torque 2.4-liter 4-cylinder. The 6-speed automatic transmission’s final drive ratio is 3.367 when mated to the 2.4-liter engine in either 4x2 or 4x4 configurations. Cargo volume is 23 cubic feet with rear seat upright and 53.5 cubic feet with rear seat folded. The 103.7-inch wheelbase Jeep Patriot Latitude 4x4 carries a MSRP of $23,795 and collects estimated mpg of 21 city/27 highway with the 2.4-liter 4-cylinder and 6- speed automatic transmission.
