The 2014 Kia Forte sedan gains in length (1.2 inches) and width (0.2 inches). It’s also a road- hugger, 0.6 inches lower than the predecessor. This Forte has not only grown in size, but it has also grown-up--most notably via a more upscale interior. During a one-week test drive, the in- cabin visuals (from surface materials to gauges) resonated with daytime and night-time appeal. The contrasting white-on-black gauges have a crisp look and flank an optional 4.2-inch LCD color screen that gives the driver a quick check point for trip-related information and various vehicle settings. A heated steering wheel, push button start, heated front seats, side mirror puddle lights, and other useful features are included with the Premium Package option.

Forte LX is fitted with a 1.8-liter 4-cylinder producing 148 horsepower at 6500 rpm and 131 pounds-feet of at 4700 rpm. The LX model offers either a 6-speed manual or an optional 6-speed automatic transmission. The test driven Forte EX’s 2.0-liter 4-cylinder provided the front wheel drive sedan with plenty of stomping power, showcasing 173 horsepower at 6500 rpm and 154 pounds-feet of torque at 4700 rpm. Front and rear seat riders liked the compact sedan’s generous legroom and headroom. The 14.9 cubic feet of trunk space easily accommodated grocery runs.

MSRP for the latest generation Forte EX four-door is $19,400. The EX model with 6-speed automatic transmission collects estimated mpg of 24 city and 36 highway.
