Equus is Hyundai’s premium luxury ride. It’s opulent without being overly showy. The interior conveys plushness with a starting MSRP that is lower than most lap-of-luxury rivals. For the 2014 model year, the Equus’ updates include new front bumper fascia and grille design, new driver displays (including a 12.3-inch digital Thin Film Transistor LCD center cluster on Ultimate models) and suspension changes. This reviewer found the rear wheel drive Equus had very responsive handling. Rear seat riders raved about the all-around spaciousness, especially the 38.8 inches of legroom, and the absolute ease of getting in and out of the car.

Equus is powered by a 5.0-liter V8 Tau engine that produces 429 horsepower at 6400 rpm and 376 pounds-feet of torque at 5000 rpm. Engine mates to an 8-speed automatic transmission with manual shift capability developed by Hyundai. The 119.9-inch wheelbase Equus has standard blind spot detection and LED foglamps. The luxury sedan is fitted with nine airbags, including roof-mounted side curtains for front and rear occupants nearest the vehicle body sides. Equus is offered in two trims: Signature and Ultimate. The 2014 Equus Ultimate collects estimated fuel economy of 15 city/23 highway and carries a MSRP of $61,000.
