The open-top ride in the Camaro convertible dazzles the senses. Everything feels close at hand. But the car also keeps the driver’s sanity in check by avoiding the loud noise syndrome. A big reason for the relative quietness during top down (and top up) driving is the vehicle’s structural rigidity. The ride is very enjoyable in the wide front seats, but the rear seat is quite cramped. Camaro’s power-controlled top means that raising or lowering the convertible covering, which uses carryover mechanisms from the Corvette, takes about 20 seconds. Standard fare on the 2SS convertible includes head-up display, heated front seats, steering wheel audio controls, USB port, rear window defogger, and rear spoiler.
Camaro SS Convertible, when fitted with the 6.2-liter V8, churns out 426 horsepower and 420 pounds-feet of torque. In the test driven car, a Tremec TR six-speed manual was paired with the that gutsy V8. While parking maneuvers are easier to accomplish with the top down, the standard rear parking assist/rear vision camera is a big help--especially true when the convertible top is up. The convertible’s trunk (which provides slightly more than 10 cubic feet of space) isn’t huge. But buyers of Camaro convertible are likely more interested in the overall presentation, the power, and the coolness factor. From an overall perspective, this convertible is a charmer. Camaro 2SS Convertible’s MSRP is $40,600, and the estimated mpg is 16 city/24 highway.
