Rather than offering a solitary engine (as was the case with the 2010 Edge), the 2011 midsize crossover offers three engine choices. The 3.5-liter V6 engine gains 20 horsepower compared to the prior year’s V6 that served up 265 horsepower. For sport-focused drivers, there’s a 3.7-liter V6. And for fuel-minded drivers, there’s the 2.0-liter EcoBoost 4-cylinder engine. Shocks, springs and stabilizer bars have been tweaked. That suspension retuning means less body lean during turning/cornering maneuvers. Edge has two seating rows. Behind the front row is nearly 69 cubic feet of cargo space. There’s 32.2 cubic feet behind the second row.

Other changes to the 2011 Edge include the availability of hill start assist, trailer sway control, and hydraulic brake assist as well as a new tire and wheel line-up. During a one-week test drive, Edge’s new four-wheel disc brakes as well as the various brake system revisions (including larger rear rotors) had the vehicle displaying a tougher, firmer stopping bite. The 111.2-inch wheelbase Edge is offered in front wheel drive or all-wheel-drive. The AWD Edge SEL fitted with 3.5-liter V6 engine and 6-speed automatic transmission collects estimated mpg of 18 city/25 highway and carries a MSRP of $32,070.
