CR-Z’s employs a 4-cylinder gasoline engine and an Integrated Motor Assist system, persuading driver and riders that this three-door doesn’t fit the traditional sports coupe mold. Honda’s all-new sports coupe also boasts a 6-speed manual transmission, which is a first for a mass-produced hybrid. The driver can select Sport, Normal, and Economy driving modes by pressing the appropriate button located on the lower dash, just left of the steering wheel. Sport mode kicks the up engine throttle responsiveness while switching other vehicle system behaviors to an athletic channel. (The driver’s visual cue for sport mode is a red-illuminated tachometer ring.) CR-Z’s spry ride is supported by a front MacPherson strut suspension with aluminum control arms and an H-shaped torsion beam suspension with trailing arms in the rear.

’s 10-kilowatt DC brushless electric motor collects 122 horsepower at 6000 rpm and 128 lb-ft of torque between 1000 rpm and 1750 rpm when fitted with the manual transmission. (CR-Z’s electric motor provides acceleration assistance, and it functions as a generator during braking/coasting to capture kinetic energy for recharging the 100.8-volt nickel metal hydride battery pack.) The 95.8-inch wheelbase CR-Z comes in base and EX trims. In addition to the 6-speed manual, an automatic continuously variable transmission is also offered. Honda CR-Z EX with manual transmission has mpg estimates of 31 city/37 highway. CR-Z EX with navigation has a MRSP of $22,705.
