RX 350’s power landscape dramatically alters via a number of performance enhancements. The next-generation 3.5-liter V6 collects 275 horsepower (an up-tick from 270 horsepower) and 90 percent of the torque is available between 2300 and 6100 rpm. Replacing the 5-speed transmission is an all-new 6-speed automatic transmission that uses artificial intelligence shifting control—essentially determining the need for up shifts and downshifts based on vehicle speed, throttle position and other parameters. An electronically controlled active torque control and AWD system replaces the previous AWD system that relied on viscous coupling locking center differential for 50:50 torque distribution. (The new, 35-pound lighter AWD system varies torque distribution anywhere from 100:0 to 50:50 front-to-rear.)

RX 350’s center console takes a cue from desktop computers via its Remote Touch, a mouse-like device that serves as the interface point for navigation, audio, heat/air conditioning and other controls. Other noteworthy interior elements include the 40/20/40 rear seats that can move fore/aft and recline, and a new climate system that can chill the interior 2 degrees lower or warm the interior by an additional 5 degrees compared to the previous RX 350. A Mark Levinson 7.1-channel surround sound audio system with DVD changer and 15 speakers and remote engine start are among the optional equipment choices. The 5-door Lexus RX 350 SUV collects estimated mpg of 18 city/24 highway and carries a MSRP of $38,200.
