The A5 coupe certainly makes a good visual presentation, and there’s plenty of substance to back up the looks. For the 2010 model year, A5 adds the 2.0-liter TFSI—a direct injected, turbocharged 4-cylinder engine producing 211 horsepower/258 pounds-feet of peak torque from 1500 to 4200 rpm. (With the 2010 model year, Audi is the first vehicle maker with all of its gasoline engines fitted with FSI direct injection technology.) The 6-speed manual transmission/4-cylinder engine combination is splendid with smooth, fast gearshifts and immediate launch-power. Beyond the pleasurable ride/drive, A5 has only a few changes from the 2009 model year, such as adaptive headlines dropped from the spec list, new wheel design for A5 Premium, and LED taillights on the A5 Premium Plus and Prestige models.

From an interior perspective, the A5’s attractiveness glosses over the not-so-impressive aspects of the MMI system (the interface point for radio, climate control and audio). In using the MMI, it can take a few (seemingly) needless steps to complete simple functions. Occupants found the front seats to be very supportive/comfortable, but the rear seat proved to be an uncomfortable locale for tall adults, especially during an extended riding period. Safety features include driver and front passenger knee airbags and curtain airbags. Audi A5 coupe with 4-cylinder engine and 6-speed manual transmission collects estimated mpg of 22 city/30 highway and carries a MSRP of $36,000.
